Our London studio moves to a state of the art, purpose built 29,000 sq ft digital building on Windmill Street


We launche Mill+. A design and animation studio focused on originating and developing great work tailored to any brief and media.


Our US expansion continues as we open our third US studio, The Mill in Chicago. The Mill in Chicago offers a full Mill complement and is based in the Near North Side of Chicago.


In a special event marking 50 years of D&AD The Mill is the only Post House named  in D&AD's Most Awarded Production Company category with the All Time Pencil Winners group.


Televisual magazine's Facilities 50 poll names The Mill Number One Post House for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year. 


We release Mill Colour 1.2 - an upgraded version of the Mill Digital designed colour grading app for the iPhone.  FWA names Mill Colour one of the Top 50 apps of all time.


Televisual magazine's Facilities 50 poll names The Mill Number One Post House for a record third consecutive year.  The magazine's Commercial 30 survey also names The Mill 'Most Rated Post House' and 'Most Used Post House' for the second year in a row, and all of our London-based Colourists are ranked amongst the top 15 Colourists in UK in their annual review.


The continued growth of our LA studio sees the team relocate to a new, state of the arts, purpose built premises in Culver City's Blackwelder Arts District.  Mill LA now also offers a new Colour team headed by Adam Scott.


Mill Design launches in London following on the success of our New York studios, offering a range of services including creative direction, art direction, character design, type design, print, branding and identity, concept / style frames and storyboarding.  The NY Design team collect their first Gold Cannes Lions award for their work on the OFFF Festival title sequence.


Mill TV collects its second BAFTA Craft Award for Visual Effects, this time for their work on BBC drama series, Merlin.


Our global expansion continues as we open The Mill at BBH Singapore, marking the first export of our hugely successful Mini Mills - a Mill VFX studio based within a partner's office.  Mill at BBH will be the hub of our BBH Singapore work.


We introduce strategic Digital Creatives and Creative Technologists to both London and New York placing interactive skills at the heart of the business. The team collaborates with agencies and brands as well as producing digital IP.


The Mill LA team are awarded a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy for Best Commercial for Old Spice's 'The Man You Could Smell Like'.


We open our tapeless integrated brand studio in the London Clipstone Street office. This brand studio offers a dedicated account-managed approach to some of the world's largest advertisers including Unilever and Reckitt Benckiser.


We open an animation division servicing the gaming industry to produce in-game content, cinematics and trailers. Highlights include 'Killzone 3' teaser and PlayStation 3 brand TV spots for Sony Computer Entertainment and the 'Darkspore' announcement trailer for EA.


We release Mill Colour, our first iPhone app that enables primary grading of photos. It receives 400,000+ downloads within eight months and is voted 'Top Filters app' by Macworld.


We open Mill Studio, a design-led, motion graphics offering for digital agencies. A fantastic success, it works with agencies and other clients on brands such as Adidas, Ford, PlayStation, Cadbury, Samsung, LG, BBC, and More4.


We launch Adtext, which quickly grows to be the market-leader in the provision of subtitling and captioning to the UK advertising community.


We launch Original Content divisions in New York and London, offering design, animation, motion-graphics and live-action direction. We finish TV, online and events projects for clients such as Sony, IBM, Audi, Ford, O2, Dyson, Mitsubishi, Sears & Vodafone.


We launch The Mill Los Angeles, making us the first UK visual effects house to have a base on the West Coast of the United States. The team quickly establishes itself as a major force in the Los Angeles advertising community and grows to a staff of 40+. Working with the highest-profile directing talent in the world, our Los Angeles office go on to win numerous awards, including the coveted 2010 VES Award for Outstanding Animated Character in a Commercial or Broadcast Programme for AMF's 'Caterpillar'.


Our TV & Film department is instrumental in the re-launch of 'Doctor Who' for the BBC, culminating in the 2009 BAFTA Craft Award for Outstanding VFX. Other projects include 'Longford', 'Skellig', 'Cast Offs', 'Somers Town' for director Shane Meadows, 'Cracks' for director Jordan Scott and the Emmy-winning HBO series 'Elizabeth' directed by Tom Hooper.


We open in New York and are the first UK visual effects house to do so. Over the next eight years, the business grows in scale and reputation to be the leading player in the East Coast visual effects community with a staff of over 100. In 2009, the New York office wins the coveted D&AD pencil for work on Coca-Cola 'It's Mine'.


Our online review and approval tool, Beam, comes to the fore and before long, 'beaming' a piece of commercial content becomes a recognisable verb in the digital world. Beam then develops an asset library for agencies and brands on the back of its electronic awards business. Beam is now regarded as the major force in distributing commercial content to UK and worldwide broadcasters and has diversified to enable interactive content experiences on any screen, for any audience, anywhere in the world.


We open the first Mini-Mill. A small slice of Mill quality (talent, kit and workflow) inside an agency hard-wired back to our London office in Great Marlborough Street.


We complete 'Gladiator' and win the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects in 2001.


We build all models for the first two films in the 'Harry Potter' series, including Hogwarts, and shoot all motion-control elements.


We form Mill Film with Ridley Scott and Tony Scott. Projects include 'Babe: Pig in the City 2', 'Gladiator', 'Black Hawk Down', 'Hannibal', 'Tomb Raider', 'Enemy of the State', 'Hilary & Jackie', 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', and 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'.


Our Motion Control division runs two mobile motion control rigs and occupies W Stage at Shepperton Studios. We are the first company to replicate MoCo camera moves directly into CG.

1990 onwards

We collaborate on some of the most iconic television commercials ever seen, including: Levi's, 'Swimmer'; Dunlop, 'Expect the Unexpected'; Pirelli, 'Carl Lewis'; Volvo, 'Twister'; Levi's, 'Drugstore'; PlayStation, 'Mountain'; Sony, 'Balls'; Drench, 'Brains Dance'; Nike, 'The Next Level'; Coca-Cola, 'It's Mine'; and many more.


We open in London's Soho as the world's first fully digital end-to-end visual effects house for advertising.
