Friday, May 20, 2011

We are delighted to mark yet another year of successful creative collaborations across all three of our global offices with many being recognised at the prestigious CLIO Awards held in New York last night.

Honoring creative excellence and innovation in advertising, design, interactive and PR, the CLIOs were presented at New York's Museum of Natural History. Comedian Lewis Black hosted the event.

Amongst the big winners who scooped Gold awards was the epic Nike 'Write the Future' which took home three Golds and a Bronze statue, Heineken 'The Entrance', Puma 'After Hours Athlete' which also collected a Silver statue, and Met Police's 'Who Killed Deon?' which also took home a Bronze.  Silver winners included the Title Sequence for OFFF Paris, Old Spice 'Questions' and T-Mobile 'Welcome Back'; whilst AT&T 'Birthday' and Hovis 'Miss Chief' were each awarded Bronze.

The Awards ceremony followed hot on the heels of the CLIO Conference held earlier in the day which saw some of the industry's leading creative thinkers and innovators - including The Mill NY's Creative Technologist Andrew Bell  - gather for a series of topical debates, discussions and insightful presentations.

Mill Studio gets graphic with Junco Films for Article 12 film

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

The Mill Studio team created some motion graphics sections that appear in the documentary feature film Article 12, directed by Juan Biain.  Head of Mill Studio, Luke Colson reveals all…

Junco Films approached The Mill to design, create and animate a number of graphical sections for their feature film, Article 12, about the technological surveillance that is constantly tracking everyone around the world through computers, mobiles, credit cards and even bus and train tickets!

The brief was to create different sections of detailed, informative graphics that looked 'analogue' or 'man made'. The Director, Juan Biain, wanted them to look like something you might not expect. He was clear that the graphics should not look like 'the matrix' or something 'cliche' when depicting information, data and surveillance... they needed to be different somehow. We spent several weeks creating the look and feel of these 'analogue' designs which we then brought to life in our Motion Graphics department, headed up by Nils Kloth who happened to be an old friend of the Director.

Article 12 brings together the world's leading academics, philosophers, cultural figures and technologists to highlight the devastating potency of surveillance and the dangers of public and individual complicity, and presents a growing movement fighting for the upkeep of the right to privacy.

The film is one of those you watch, and then need to reassure yourself that someone is not watching you! Article 12 is featuring at a number of festivals and due for release soon.
