The very first ADCAN Awards ceremony took place last week, giving up-and-coming filmmakers a forum to create inspiring work for charities, along with exposure to the world’s best production companies.
Not only does ADCAN provide unsigned talent the opportunity to build upon their showreel and skill set, the creative platform also helps generate awareness for good causes. Filmmakers were challenged to create a 30 second advertising film based on one of the online briefs from selected charities, each of which are able to keep and use the brand films after the competition.
Winning filmmakers also get access to creative workshops at Wave Studios, ARRI Media, Work and here at The Mill, giving them the opportunity to plunge below the surface of some of the industry’s more mysterious art forms, as well as a coveted and hard to obtain foot in the proverbial door.
After a fantastic awards ceremony celebrating the best in young talent, the budding stars arrived at The Mill the next day, where they were given a 2-hour intensive breakdown of the what’s what and who’s who of VFX. This included talks by artists, creative directors and members of the talent team, who discussed how the Mill+, 2D and 3D departments work together to bring some of The Mill’s best projects to fruition.
A huge congratulations to all of this year’s winners (see all the films here) and we hope to see a lot more from them in the future! Watch the 2014 ADCAN Grand Prix Award winning film from director Abbie Brandon and producer Emily Atterton below.
