Agency creative director, founder of ColourTV and bike enthusiast Jay Pond Jones recently gave Mill Londoners a full-bespoke bike fitting experience, teaming his own cycle brand ColourBolt up with Mosquito bikes to create a ‘cycle surgery’ in The Mill’s London studio.
Who: Jay Pond-Jones, agency Creative Director and Founder of ColourBolt Bikes and Colour TV
Riding: Single Speed ColourBolt Ratty Black (with Ambrosio Excelite rims)
Favourite Cycle Route: A late night ride home from Soho to Notting Hill at 2am
Aside from his notable career spanning creative advertising and comedy entertainment television, Jay’s most recent endeavor saw him set up ColourBolt, a high-end fully bespoke bike service, creating unique bikes, which are characterized by their single coloured chain ringbolt.
“It started because I’d enjoyed the whole process of building up my own bike so much that I didn’t want to stop. I had some time on my hands at the end of a long running comedy series that I’d been making for the US, so I bought some vintage frames and set about creating a collection of bikes that were all different, but with a common look too.” Says Jay, “I did the first collection in all kinds of black finishes. Wet Black, Dry Black, Bling Black, and Sparkle Black, the only branding was a single coloured chainring bolt with ColourBolt on it. The visual theme has continued to this day and become more refined with time.”
Everything on ColourBolt bikes is bespoke and starts with a bike fit at Mosquito, from which they create custom geometry for each bike build.
Their latest model for 2015 is the stiff and stealthy Maximum Black Disc Road Bike, which now available for custom builds. The ColourBolt ‘Ratty Black’ single speed frame can be seen at The Hall Of Frame at Spin London 2015.
