JWT, The Mill and director Roman Coppola's latest delightful spot 'To Tommy from Zooey' for Macy's, featuring designer Tommy Hilfiger and 'New Girl' actress Zooey Dechanel mixes theatrical style with old school technique.
Roman, who previously wrote and produced Wes Anderson's 'The Darjeeling Unlimited' and 'Moonrise Kingdom,' brought his expert attention to detail, extreme technical knowledge and vintage sensibility to the project. An entire Macy's storefront was built horizontally to allow Zooey to lithely 'walk' vertically down the building.
The Mill team brought the supporting actors together seamlessly within the storefront. The goal was to offer a sneak peek at Zooey's new americana-inspired polka dotted and pleated design line. The recognizable Hilfiger red, blue and white color scheme is revealed on the ladies waving out of windows. The supporting actors were rigged horizontally, where they could beam and interact with Zooey as she walked past.
By using old-hollywood style printed translight backgrounds and wedge sets when Zooey jumps down from the shop awning, the final spot is beautifully traditional, authentically theatrical, and adorkable; Just like the blue-eyed starlet.
