Directed by Terry Rayment through Eskimo and graded by Chicago Head of Colour, Luke Morrison, Kodak's short film ‘Understanding’ beautifully promotes gay acceptance through the moving relationship of a father and son.
The story begins with a high school boy’s secret life being revealed when his little sister walks in on him kissing his baseball teammate. The three minute short perfectly captures the terror of coming out and ends with the re-affirmation of power of love and the printed photo.
Luke explains his approach, “Everything was shot on Kodak vision3 stock and working on this perfectly lent itself to creating the right moments for the story. I gave the film a slightly low exposure and warm tone for a more nostalgic and cinematic feel. But, I still retained some cooler moments to give contrast between the scenes and compliment the emotional moments.”
