Shot on location in Ukraine and London, the music video contrasts vast, minimalist wide shots of a frozen lake with warmer, intimate shots inside a warehouse.
Featuring slick choreography against the backdrop of dramatic scenery, as well as dizzying camera trickery, Misch himself also makes an appearance walking the streets of his London hometown. The Mill provided the colour grade as well as VFX capabilities such compositing and aerial effects.
Colorist Oisin O’Driscoll says of the grade, 'this video was really creative and technically challenging.
The brief for the footage shot in Ukraine on the ice fields was to go day for night so working closely with director Georgia Hudson we started to explore dark and rich blue styles while maintaining a degree of desaturated highlight to give depth and texture to the image. It was important to keep the yellow of the outfit strong to keep the image balanced and highlight the man dancing on the ice.
We juxtaposed this aesthetic with the warm look with light leaking through the windows for Loyle Carner's performance.
We wanted to incorporate aspects of both looks into the final bus scene and as such we started to build a cold look overall and then brought the mid-tones back to a warmer space and finally added a greenish highlight to give it an individual feel. I think all these looks complemented each other beautifully to really add to this great video and track.’
