Within the commercial, beams of light are seen shooting across the night sky, leaving spectators bewildered, the lights eventually make their way into the onlooker’s phones allowing them to access priority rewards. The Mill VFX aimed to sprinkle literal stardust on the already beautifully shot plates, aiming to catch as much lighting as possible in camera.
Greg Spencer states: ‘For every scene that our stardust was going to hit we had a huge light attached to a crane, moving as fast as it could to create shadows and light play across the scene. We also used this in shots with no CGI and found we didn't need to augment the scenes at all. Sometimes the light showed enough of the story for you.’
Other than the intro sequence, calmness was demonstrated throughout the spot ‘The full CGI opening was really the only frenetic shots in the whole thing. Henry thought that it was the only time the ad should feel anything other than gentle. Once inside the atmosphere we had to play around with the balance of how the magical asteroids looked as they came through the atmosphere and down to earth.
They had to look placid and appealing as opposed to threatening. Magical but not too cheesy. As it turned out quite a tricky brief. The same went for the phone strikes as well. With plenty of back and forth between us and the director I think we got there in the end.’
