The C4D Artist must have in-depth 3D knowledge and the ability to devise and create complex models and effects to an exceptional standard. They must demonstrate a true understanding of the subtleties of modelling, the texture of surfaces, the lighting of 3D creations, the ability to seamlessly bed an effect into a scene and a talent for creating the appropriate pace and character for the narrative.



The Mill covers a broad range of creative output so the C4D Artist will work in context for broadcast, film media, installations and digital creative simultaneously. The C4D Artist will represent The Mill at international VFX and 3DI conferences networking with potential clients to procure new business and sourcing and advising potential talent regarding future work opportunities at The Mill.



The C4D Artist must be able to assess the essential needs of the Creative staff, project specific direction, multi-disciplinary approach to creative output.







Responsibilities:



Work in coordination with Senior artists, under the supervision of the Head of Motion Design, to grow and develop the business, as well as implement working methodologies, manage large projects and coordinate the Motion Design output and quality control
Work closely with the New York, Los Angeles and Chicago offices to encourage intra-office marketing, knowledge sharing, planning and cohesion
Determine production requirements and advise on budgets
Create and maintain client networks to provide new business opportunities.
Coach and lead other Animators/Artists and train them in methods of modelling, texturing, lighting and the creation of special effects elements in Cinema 4D
Work with external agencies to implement creative solutions to interface issues with external and internal techniques and technologies.
Pushing the Cinema 4D offering at The Mill LDN to the cutting edge, both technically and creatively.

Requirements:

Required skills, knowledge and experience:



Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Motion Design Artist
A degree in animation, design or computer graphics. (or equivalent)
Advanced knowledge of specific Motion Design packages Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects, along with render systems i.e. VRay and Arnold.

Highly developed knowledge of the software and hardware used in every aspect of the post-production process.

The Mill’s engineering team are responsible for ensuring all the technical systems and equipment are implemented and working to their optimum to underpin the successful operation of the business.

The Engineer will work closely with the PE and Engineering team to deliver excellent client service and a strong research & development, planning, implementation and maintenance plan for all video equipment at The Mill’s main office in Windmill Street . The Mill’s departments include Flame suites, Colour Grading suites, AFX, Studio, Nuke, 3D workstations, Tech Ops and Beam suites.

The Engineer will maintain, support and upgrade onsite and offsite equipment, software and cabling and provide advice and support to Clients, Producers, creative artists, technical staff and senior management with regard to technical issues.

Where appropriate the Engineer will carry out technical research of current technologies including work stations, broadcast equipment, colour imagery and software and recommend appropriate action ie. upgrade, replace, rewire, reconfigure etc to the PE or Chief Engineer. They will also make recommendations to the PE and Chief Engineer on solutions and capabilities for both on-site and current/new equipment in the broader post production field.

We are looking for a Senior Modeler to join our team here on a freelance basis at The Mill. Idealy you will have been in a similar role giving direction to a team for around 5 years or more. We are pretty open as to whether that is in film, game, feature animation or TV - so long as you have the right skills that we are looking for.

You will have a clear understanding of the modelling process and you will have the ability to interpret designs and accurately match reference material. You will be confident enough in your technical ability to be able to troubleshoot problems. As you would probably expect we need someone with excellent polygon and subdivision surface modeling skills and the ability to manage UV's. On top of this you will also have the ability to create blend shapes.

You will be used to creating characters (organic and hard surface digital models). We will also expect you to have strong anatomy knowledge for both humans and creatures with a good level of sculpting organic forms. A solid understanding of posing in motion will also be required. We are really looking for someone with a strong artistic eye.

We tend to use Zbrush and Mudbox here at The Mill - so ideally you will be up to scratch on both. We expect that as a Senior Modeler you will also have an excellent understanding of texturing, topology and mesh flow including basic rigging techniques.

The Operations Manager (OM) will support the resources team in managing all MiIl Artists. As a key liaison between Production and all creative artists the OM is responsible for effectively monitoring and managing both artists and technical resources ensuring a balance between creativity and profit. The OM will also be responsible for providing accurate financial reports to the MD and HoP. The role requires excellent diplomacy and communication skills as well as a strong grasp of Financial matters.


Role overview

Reporting to the Managing Director the OM must have a good understanding of The Mill’s broader strategic goals and key objective of the resources Department. The OM must have an in-depth understanding of The Mill’s Services and an excellent understanding of talent management. This service must fully support and respond to the business requirements of The Mill whilst championing the welfare of its most important asset; people.
