AT&T Wireless celebrates its first five years with Birthday, a whimsical spot that recognises all the vigorous charm of childlike drawings and animates them within a cityscape. A buoyant reminder that AT&T rethink the possible.
Working with BBDO NY and DGA-winning director and ideas man
Peter Thwaites, The Mill NY animated giant cut-outs of drawings and
introduced them into a cityscape. It brings the place alive, as our
VFX Supervisor/CD Angus Kneale says, 'It was incredibly important
to use the actual medium of crayon and paper. The charm and
authenticity of physical media provided a lot of character, which
was exactly what Peter wanted.'
Extensive research provided invaluable reference for our
animators. 'Full-size paper models of some characters were made and
dropped from cranes,' says Angus. 'We made paper clouds, and
actually studied the properties of how paper reacts as it falls.
