Summary
Written and directed by Ben Strebel and out of Saloon Films, the beautiful new promo for eclectic and hotly tipped new British act Clock Opera's 'Once And For All'.
This cinematic short film and music video explores the dynamic
between two elderly people, Dudley Sutton (Football Factory,
Orlando, Lovejoy) and Ann Queensberry (Empire of the Sun, Mrs
Henderson Presents). Dudley Sutton's character strives to build up
the courage to approach the object of his affections over the
course of a few days. We follow the action across urban London and
intimate domestic scenes in a series of beautiful shots. Missed
opportunity leads to missed opportunity until our protagonist
finally decides to take destiny into his own hands. Their climactic
first meeting is tragically never to take place however, and the
film ends with a heartfelt scene of loss, featuring actress
Catherine Steadman (The Inbetweeners, The Tudors).
Filmed as a short, the approach to the action was as to a TV
drama; "This was a very personal project for me." comments director
Ben Strebel. "I feel very strongly that older people go unnoticed
in this country and wanted to reverse the usual music video focus
on youth to show that the emotions of love and loss are universal
ones. It was a delight to work with such a strong cast; the
performance of Dudley Sutton in particular is an extraordinary one.
When I submitted the idea of this story to Island Records it was
always framed as a short film, they believed in it working in both
formats and it was fantastic to have been enabled to realize the
project in this unusual way."
This beautiful story was then graded by our Colourist Houmam
Abdallah, who achieved Ben's brief of a music video that looked and
felt like a short film or tv drama. He added, "I worked on the
film's natural look and enhanced it's cinematic qualities allowing
the footage to speak for itself."
