Summary
We were delighted to be invited by Neil Gorringe and Jason Delahunty at Channel 4 to create a VFX heavy promo for E4’s exciting new comedy drama ‘Misfits’.
'Misfits' follows five 'asbo' teens who find themselves in a
freak storm while on community service, only to be struck by
lightning and eventually realise they have superhuman powers.
The launch of the show will see a series of five second bumpers
across the Channel 4 network as well as a mobile phone campaign,
followed by the stunning 40 second and 20 second promos.
Neil's brief to us was simple: Make it big, bold and
epic! The shoot involved some unusual and entertaining
elements to bring together from pressurized ice canons, trained
pigeons to a metal safe being dropped from a crane onto a
car! Almost all of the scenes required additional ice, and
all of the scenes required clouds and lightning. Our 3D department
set to work creating a number of Ice elements which were comped in
Flame and Nuke, before a large amount of rig removal and clean up
work took place and finally Seamus O'Kane, our Senior Colourist
graded it.
The amount of VFX that was needed was enormous but the Pete's
(Rypstra and Hodsman) along with our 3D team created the perfect
storm leaving Neil and Jason with a smile on their faces
throughout.
Luke Colson, Head of Mill Studio said: "This was one of
the most enjoyable projects we have worked on in a long time.
Looking at the Promo, it looks like we had a really bad day with
the weather so job done all round!"
