Summary
John Lewis has never knowingly undersold and that includes its commercials!
Working alongside Adam & Eve's creatives Sidney Rogers and
Harry Bugden and director Ringan Ledwidge at Rattling Stick, we've
been collaborating on their new spot that promotes John Lewis'
unrivalled knowledge in electrical products.
The film, 'Through the Ages' consists of seven vignettes, each
representing a different era that is brought to life with a classic
song from its time period - mixed by acclaimed music producer
Bullion.
In the opening scene, a young boy making a mix tape 'for Julie' in
his bedroom listens to a cassette of The Smiths on a Sony hi-fi,
before we shift to The Selector's ska track 'On My Radio', which
blasts out of an old school boom box - prompting a playful
dance-off. We're then taken to a 60's coffee bar playing 'I
Only Want to be With You' on a Roberts Radio, a cosy family room
with the classic 'Black Beauty' on a Thorn colour TV, Elton John's
'Rocket Man' on the record decks of a school common room, and
Sade's 'Smooth Operator' playing through the headphones of a bright
yellow Sony walkman while a women relaxes in her pool. We finish in
the present day with Smart TV and The Kooks' 'Shine On' as a first
kiss gets interrupted by mum!
Colourist Mick Vincent explains that "Ringan had a clear plan for
the grade so most of the work had been already achieved in the
lighting and art direction. Add 35mm film into the equation and the
images just came to life naturally".
Take a look at the nostalgic and heart warming spot.
