We are excited to announce that The Mill participated as an exhibitor at South by South Lawn: A White House Festival of Ideas, Art, and Action on October 3, 2016 in coordination with the American Film Institute (AFI), National Parks Foundation, President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities (PCAH), and South by Southwest®.
South by South Lawn, an event inspired by South by Southwest, brings together creators, innovators, and organizers who work day in and day out to improve the lives of their fellow Americans and people around the world. It is a call to arms for every American to roll up their sleeves and make a positive mark on our country — and a celebration of the great work that we have already accomplished together.
‘6X9: A Virtual Experience of Solitary Confinement’, a project conceived by The Guardian and created in collaboration with The Mill, was picked to demonstrate the power of immersive storytelling in educating and moving people to effect positive change.
The Mill’s Director of Emerging Technology Boo Wong comments, “Being selected by The White House for this project is an incredible honor. At The Mill we strive to tell stories in compelling ways and find powerful applications of technology that help viewers connect and immerse themselves in new worlds. This collaboration with The Guardian demonstrates the power of virtual reality to inform and educate on pressing issues, where traditional formats may not have the same impact.”
