Our Festive Throwbacks

Work November 4, 2021

We’ve taken a look back at some favourite festive throwbacks, which include recreating famous Home Alone scenes for Google to crafting a fully CG robin for Waitrose. Check them out below.

John Lewis | Moz The Monster

Set to a cover version of The Beatles song ‘Golden Slumbers’, recorded by British band Elbow, the two minute advert tells a heartwarming story of a little boy called Joe, who is kept awake by a 7ft imaginary Monster called Moz who is living under his bed. The two form a friendship and play together every evening, but staying awake through the night starts to take its toll on Joe, who can hardly keep his eyes open during the day.

Google | End of Year | Home Alone

For Google’s end of year spot ‘Home Alone’, The Mill teamed up with Arts & Sciences director Mike Warzin and Arts & Letters to bring back the classic holiday magic of Home Alone.

John Lewis | Man on the Moon

This heartwarming spot features a young girl who goes to great lengths to send a message to the Man on the Moon, so that he doesn’t feel lonely during the festive season. The heartwarming film is set to Oasis’ track ‘Half the World Away’, covered by Aurora.

Lowes | Gingerdeer

‘Gingerdeer’ tells the story of a unique gingerbread cookie who is tossed away and ignored because he’s not like everyone else. As we follow him on his quest throughout the house to find friends who will accept him for who he is, this heartwarming holiday tale soon makes us realize that the best part of the holidays is feeling at home. You can view the 2-minute film created by BBDO New York in partnership with The Mill.

Coach | Introducing Rexy

Nintendo | Magic Unwrapped

Snow! Family! Presents! Pikachu! What would the holidays be without your favorite Nintendo game characters? Mill Directors Nick Lines and Andrew Proctor worked with Leo Burnett to bring some familiar friends to the action in ‘Magic Unwrapped’ for the Nintendo 3DS.

Microsoft | Reindeer Games

The Mill joined forces with Director Bryan Buckley from Hungry Man along with m:united//McCann for the latest spot from Microsoft. This heartfelt spot features Owen Simmons, a 9-year-old gamer living with Escobar Syndrome.

Marks and Spencer | Christmas with love from Mrs Claus

The spot invites viewers into the home of the modern day Mr and Mrs Claus, following the glamorous Mrs Claus character closely throughout, as she is seen helping young people at Christmas. Her Husband, Santa Claus, remains none the wiser, a humorous situation that also pulls on the heart-strings as you watch the storyline develop and learn about the life of the little boy who has called upon her for help.

Waitrose | Coming Home

Working with adam&eveDDB and Director Sam Brown out of Rogue, The Mill created a charming, fully CG robin to play the star role in the 2016 Waitrose Christmas campaign.
