Forbes | Serena Williams Reminds Us To Prioritize Joy In Michelob Ultra Super Bowl Ad

Joy is the message Serena Williams wants to convey through her role in Michelob Ultra’s new Super Bowl ad, called ‘Happy’. The commercial features a lineup of celebrity athletes, including Peyton Manning, Anthony Davis and Alex Morgan, all of whom are shown relishing their downtime—an ingredient as important to success as grit and raw talent.

The ad finds Williams at her Florida home having a karaoke party—singing everything from ’90s rock to Megan Thee Stallion to Cardi B—with friends. “Life is really about balance, but you also have to have fun and let go,” says Williams, reflecting on the commercial. “The world knows me as someone who puts so much time and hard work into my game and through it all I’ve realized you have to find the joys that make the journey worth it.”

While a number of companies have decided to sit out of the Super Bowl ad game this year—Budweiser, which, like Michelob, is owned by Anheuser-Busch, is donating the money it would have spent on an ad to the Ad Council and COVID Collaborative—Michelob opted to participate with positive, upbeat programming.
