Everything we do as a team makes great ideas come to life. We are thinkers, designers, artists, directors, producers, developers, colourists, coders, technicians, editors, animators, writers, doers and makers.

In our Makers At Heart series, we introduce the people behind the projects to hear more about their inspirations, motivations and creative insights. We spoke with 3D Artist, Kate Gabriel about her introduction to The Mill, creating CG ‘Puggerflies’ and what gets her out of bed in the morning.

Tell us about a project that defines your craft and why?

Since joining The Mill, I’ve had the pleasure to be part of so many incredible projects alongside extremely talented people. There are many pieces of work that are close to my heart as a 3D artist, one of them being Three ‘Free Your Puggerfly’. It was my first project at The Mill – it was fun, creative and challenging and let me know I was working at the right place.

The commercial was full CG and featured a pug with butterfly wings flying around in his world. I had to create various assets of vegetation and I also worked on the lighting. The commercial had a big campaign around it and I remember seeing our character everywhere. Every morning at Oxford Street underground station, on banners in the shopping centres and in stories of my friends who used it as a Snapchat filter.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Coffee definitely helps! Every day is a new adventure so it’s important to stay positive, creative and enjoy each day the best we can.
