We are Makers At Heart. We create the extraordinary.
As the creative engine room of the world’s biggest brands we are driven by one purpose: to solve our client’s toughest briefs beautifully. Our Makers believe in the power of cooperation and partnership to deliver ambitious ideas to that break new ground and deliver awe-inspiring creative work.
Everything we do as a team makes great ideas come to life. We are thinkers, designers, artists, directors, producers, developers, colourists, coders, technicians, editors, animators, writers, doers and makers.
In our Makers At Heart series, we introduce the people behind the projects to hear more about their inspirations, motivations and creative insights. We spoke to Production Assistant Libby Gandhi about how The Chemical Brothers ‘Wide Open’ promo inspired her and how the lockdown has inspired a new creative pursuit.
If you had to choose one project to share with someone who’d never heard of what you do, what would it be and why?
I would show them The Chemical Brothers’ ‘Wide Open’ music video, where The Mill transformed a dancer’s body into a cage-like 3D printed body.
The staging is simple so the VFX shines. It demonstrates how VFX serves creative ideas, and how post-production isn’t always post-shoot and on computers; The Mill were on-set collaborating with the directors and dancer from the start.
There’s an excellent BTS that breaks down each of the steps in the pipeline and shows the creativity, thoroughness, and teamwork required to achieve the end result. And all set to a great song!
Are you working on any passion projects at the moment?
Yes – one of the silver linings of lockdown has been the extra time to explore new creative ideas.
My big project this year has been a small business producing hand-drawn house portraits. It began during the first lockdown when I was drawing houses in my village, but I’ve now sent portraits around the world. You can check them out on my website!
Pre-pandemic I used to do a lot of life drawing and figurative sculpture in clay; it’ll be great to return to these once the studios reopen.
