Stock footage, a once maligned resource only to be used in case of emergency, has seen a major step change in recent years. High band-width connections and a myriad of quality resources have shifted the perception of ‘using stock’ for the better.
In conjunction with the right VO and perhaps the addition of a little magic, this principally editorial approach can create compelling films relatively quickly. Inconsistencies of quality and lighting are still watch-outs, but with careful grading and enhancement, we can usually smooth out any issues.
Dimensionalizing stock photography is another interesting technique. By projecting elements into 3D space, parallaxing camera moves can bring previously flat imagery to life.
