The Final Shape — a nightmarish calcification of reality into the Witness’s twisted design. Embark on a perilous journey into the heart of the Traveler, rally the Vanguard, and end the War of Light and Darkness. Become Legend // February 27, 2024.
Continuing our ongoing collaboration with Bungie on their award-winning IP Destiny 2, our Mill+, VFX and Colour teams delivered an action packed visually arresting film for this new trailer of the world-renowned game.
“After hearing the brief from Bungie, with whom we’ve worked closely with on previous trailer installments, we wanted to summon all of our keen intent to make something both intimately dire as well as wildly picturesque. We wanted to build our scenes in the right kind of mood to project both the melancholic origins as well as the adventurous dive into their future world of the nightmarish surreal. Aside from the kind of magnificent world-vistas and environments our protagonists find themselves in, it was about catching them in the midst of an intimate moment that captures the general saga of struggles they undertake and persevere through. It was a great joy to part take in the making of this film full of fantastic matte paintings, intricate environmental design, super dope and yet intentionally understated animation that ultimately aided in setting the right vibe to the scene.
Everything about the making of this film, from its early conceptions, through intricate previz, mocap of performances and an incredible team of VFX talent felt like we were always in the process of making something outstanding and quite cool.”
“This was one of the biggest Destiny films we've made to date. It had the most characters and the most environments, FX - stunts and more. It's always a challenge to make a full cg film in a relatively short time but our artists rose to meet that challenge and absolutely crushed it. Every shot is a painting but one of my favorite shots is the one of the Guardian laying in the grass. The way the character turns in such a believable manner and the wind ripples through the grass while the sun hits his helmet just right is just so beautiful. It's a simple shot but it's one where every department from assets, to animation, FX, Lighting, and Compositing all worked together to make something even more than the sum of each part.”
