The Disability Confident scheme has been set up by the UK Government to help organisations improve how they attract, recruit and retain disabled workers to boost inclusion in the workplace.

By signing up to the scheme, The Mill has made a public declaration that we are committed to doing better in this space. The first steps on this journey will see Graeme working with our People & Culture teams to review our current recruitment practices and policies, to ensure they are inclusive and accessible and play a role in retaining and recruiting a diverse range of talent. Longer-term, we will be working with Graeme to assess the accessibility of our wider working environment, including our communications and digital space.

Graeme Whippy comments, “I’m really excited to see The Mill signing up to become a Disability Confident employer. As the first full-service creative studio of its kind to sign up they have set the bar for others in the industry to follow in their footsteps.”

At its core, The Mill is a company built on the spirit of innovation and creative problem solving and so it’s essential that we continue to attract outstanding creative talent, from all walks of life. This really is an untapped pool of talent for us as different life experiences bring different ways of thinking and a broader collective creative output.

Head of Studio, Misha Stanford-Harris, adds “Shockingly, nearly 50% of the UK’s disabled population are unemployed. We want to do better at recruiting a diverse range of able-bodied and disabled talent to bring new ways of thinking to the studio. It’s about creating a barrier-free working environment for everybody.”
