Unity 2021: The trends shaping the Media and Entertainment industry

With the path to recovery on the horizon, Unity conducted it’s research into trends within Media & Entertainment industry. Twenty industry experts, including The Mill’s Associate Creative Director Sally Reynolds, shared their predictions for the Media & Entertainment industry in a post-pandemic era.

Who is Sally Reynolds?

She is our resident Augmented Reality expert, having created 40+ AR works for Facebook, Instagram and Magic Leap. Her Virtual Wing project at the Tate prototypes the future of museums, and received the Communication Arts Interactive Award for 2019. Her designer’s eye, best described as curiously winsome, has lent charm and thoughtfulness across all manner of our experiential, XR, and film works.

What did she speak about ?

Innovation and evolution accelerate during times of conditional change, scant resources or stress. 

“The largest trend lifting the entire film and linear production supply chain right now is Virtual Production. It’s changing how we write for the content itself, to how we run pre-pro and how we film, through to paradigm-changing real-time VFX and post pipelines. No sooner are we developing Virtual Events than we are already thinking ahead to how these platforms flow back into augmenting in-person physical destinations down the road. And beyond utility, XR will increasingly offer key ecosystems for brands to get right, in order to engage their end customers.
