Dentsu Network approached us to craft a photo-realistic seal that can ice skate and waltz, demonstrating the magical taste that is in each bite of Fabelle chocolates.

The team had to think outside the box as seals cannot biologically move the same way as humans due to their limited mobility. The biggest challenge was figuring out how the seal would dance and skate with restricted movements. The VFX team had the leading actor performing actions in front of a green screen whilst wearing a costume that would that was designed to restrict movement; this made it much easier for the VFX artists to match the dance moves and create a photorealistic semiaquatic mammal.

A cute photorealistic dancing seal that audiences thoroughly enjoyed, the spot also trended during airing in India.

Our VFX team worked directly with Dentsu Network Advertising Pvt. Ltd. and Director Shirsha Guha Thakurta to create Fabelle’s cute and humorous spot. Crafted in our Bangalore Studio, the team turned an ordinary seal into a figure skating professional. The seal was created in full CG and involved the team mixing multiple breeds to fit the brief. Our concept artists came up with numerous options from which the Director selected his preference.

Rashabh Ramesh Butani, Supervisor (Compositing), states “Fabelle was a one-of-a-kind project since it was the first time I got the opportunity to work as a VFX supervisor and deliver a project from start to finish; from character concepts to going on-set in Belarus to delivering the end result from our Bangalore studio. We had a lot of fun working on the project, and it gave us a deep sense of satisfaction working directly with a client. It was a great opportunity for the team to get exposure to this creative work profile. The Director was thrilled with the result and thanked the whole team.”
