The Mill creates powerful CG launch film for the world's first 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel flight
On Tuesday 28th November 2023, Virgin Atlantic’s historic flight on 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) took off from London Heathrow to New York JFK, demonstrating the capability of SAF as a safe drop-in replacement for fossil derived jet fuel, compatible with today’s engines, airframes, and fuel infrastructure.
The Mill is extremely proud to have played such a significant role in the creation of the epic visuals used to promote this innovative advancement.
The brief was centred around one long, continuous pull back shot, ending in the momentous reveal of the 787 Dreamliner, with a strong focus on the state of art Trent 1000 engines.
Mill Director, Carsten Keller said, "to create this cinematic film, the team framed the camera extremely close up, creating a dark, almost moody and mysterious tone to the underside of the aircraft. Of course, we couldn't reveal the entire Dreamliner too soon. We chose a slightly wider camera lens for this one to further emphasise the sheer size and splendour of the aircraft as it towers overhead.
As we pull back, like a classic automotive style, we slowly introduce impressive features, all while playing with the incredible light from the surrounding environment. The hangar was designed to act as the powerful stage for our hero plane, creating such an intense atmosphere and working in harmony with the Virgin Atlantic brand colours."
